Romania wins first place at the International Geography Olympiad in Russia

The Romanian students won four medals at this year’s edition of the International Geography Olympiad, which took place at Tver in Russia. Romania thus ranked first of a total of 40 countries that participated in the competition, according to Romania’s Education Ministry. Romanian student Costin George Dobrin, of the Mircea cel Batran National College in Constanta, got the gold medal. Elena Aura Amironesei from Iasi and Sonia Adelina Sortan from Deva got the silver medals, and Lorena Davidel from Falticeni took the bronze. A total of 150 students from 40 countries competed at this Olympiad. Romania was third at last year’s International Geography Olympiad, and first at the 2013 edition.
