Romania wants new agreement for economic cooperation with Cuba

Romania’s foreign affairs minister Lazar Comanescu has suggested Cuban minister of foreign affairs Eduardo Rodríguez Parrilla to conclude a new agreement for economic cooperation between Romania and Cuba. The two officials met at the UN General Assembly (opening picture). The Romanian Government wants to resume trade relations with authorities in Cuba, mainly in the construction, tourism, mining, steel, pharmaceutical and agri-food industry. Romania wants to rebuild its relationship with Cuba due to the new ties between the US and Cuba. In March this year, US president Barack Obama made a visit to Havana. He was the first US president who visited Cuba after almost 90 years. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide became the first US company which concluded an agreement in the hotel sector in Cuba after the revolution in 1959.
