Romania to spend EUR 136 million to stabilize the Black Sea coastal area

Romania plans to spend about EUR 136 million over the next three years to stabilize the Black Sea coastal area, according to the Romanian Minister of Environment and Forests, Laszlo Borbely, during the meeting of Environment Ministers from the member states of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization (OCEMN), that was held in Bucharest. “Since Romania has, for a period of six months, the presidency of OCEMN, we appeal to the European Union, regional organizations, neighboring states bordering the Black Sea, and say that now is the time to pay a greater importance to environmental protection”, said Laszlo Borbely. The Minister also said Romania pays a special attention to environmental protection activities developed within the OCEMN and is committed to contribute, along with other member states, to analyzing and finding solutions to common problems in the Black Sea region. OCEMN was officially launched through the declaration signed in Istanbul on June 25, 1992. Its founding members are Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, Turkey, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine and the three Caucasian countries, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia Irina Popescu, irina.popescu@romania-insider.com
