Romania still imports more than exports: trade deficit up to EUR 851 mln in August

Romania's trade deficit went up by 34.4 percent in August, reaching EUR 851 million, compared to the same month of 2010, the National Institute of Statistics has said.

Exports grew by 24.1 percent, reaching EUR 3.4 billion, while imports advanced by 26 percent, to EUR 4.3 billion. Exports dropped by 8.4 percent month-on-month, while imports went down by 2.9 percent month-on-month. EU is still Romania's main market for exported products, with 2.4 billion of products, 27.5 percent more than in August 2010. Romania imported EUR 3 billion of products and services from EU countries and EUR 1.24 billion from countries outside the EU. The country's trade deficit was of EUR 6.14 billion in the first eight months of the year, similarly to the one in the same period of 2010. The country's imports reached EUR 35.4 billion during these eight months, 19,9 percent more than in 2010's similar period, white its exports reached EUR 29.3 billion, 25 percent higher than in the first eight months of 2010.
