The retail trade volume in Romania rose by 19.3% in February compared to February 2015. It was the highest annual growth recorded by a country in the European Union, according to the EU’s statistical office Eurostat. In the Eurozone, the retail trade went up by 2.4% year-on-year whereas the growth totaled 3% in the European Union. The sales of non-food goods increased by 2.8% in the European Union in February whereas the sales of food, beverages and tobacco rose by 3.2%. The sales of fuel stagnated. The retail trade rose by 1.8% in Romania in February compared to January. Romania ranked third for the monthly growth, after Luxembourg (4.9%) and Portugal (2.7%). The retail trade saw a monthly increase of 0.1% in the European Union and of 0.2% in the Eurozone. editor@romania-insider.com
