Romania, second in the EU for highest price increases

Consumer prices went up in Romania in March, while going down across the EU. Romania ranks second among the EU member states that recorded the highest annual inflation rates in March, according to the European Statistical Office (Eurostat). The annual inflation rate in the euro area and the EU reached -0.1% in March, compared to -0.3% in February, which meant prices went down, on average, in the EU. Meanwhile, the countries with the highest inflation rate were Austria (0.9%), Romania (0.8%) and Sweden (0.7%). By comparison, prices went down in 12 countries, which recorded in March negative annual rates of inflation, including Greece (-1.9%), Cyprus (-1.4%) and Poland (-1.2%). Inflation dropped in 22 member states, compared to February. In Romania, it went up from 0.4%, a historic low, to 0.8%. editor@romania-insider.com
