Romania revamps railways and train stations with EUR 500 mln

Romanian state-owned railways company CFR SA recently awarded six contracts with a total value of EUR 479 million, financed with European funds, for revamping two railways segments and four train stations.

The first contract was awarded for the railway sectionCurtici - Arad km 614, to the Astaldi - Swietelsky - Alstom - Euro Construct - Dafora consortium. The contract amounts to EUR 248 million, without VAT, and the works have to be finalized in one year and three months, with a guarantee period of two years. The second contract was signed for the modernization of the Sighisoara - Atel (Sibiu) railway section, which has a length of 23.3 km. This contract went to FCC Construction - Alpine - AZVI consortium, for a total value of EUR 208 million, without VAT. The works have to be finalized in three years. The funding sources are the European Commission, with 85 percent, and the Romanian Government with 15 percent. Four other contracts were signed for revamping Zalau, Botosani, Bistrita, and Ramnicu Valcea train stops.
