Romania repays EUR 1.5 bln to IMF, EU & World Bank

Romania has repaid more than EUR 1.56 billion to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the European Union and the World Bank since the beginning of the year. The state has to cover the stand-by loan it made in 2009. It paid the bulk of the amount, namely EUR 1.546 billion, on January 1. EUR 1.5 billion of these represented capital repayments, whereas EUR 46 million stood for interest rates and fees, reports local Agerpres. In February, the state paid EUR 4.1 million to the World Bank, and EUR 3 million to the IMF, both interest rates and fees. Romania has to repay EUR 1.86 billion to the three institutions in 2015. In 2009, Romania made a 24-month stand-by loan worth EUR 12.95 billion with the IMF, part of a support package worth EUR 19.95 billion from the IMF, EU and the World Bank. editor@romania-insider.com
