Romania ranked second in the European Union for the increase in construction work in May this year compared to the same month in 2015, with a growth rate of 7.5%. Sweden was first with a 14.4% rise in construction work, according to European Union’s statistical office Eurostat. Construction work decreased by 1.1% at EU level and by 0.8% in the euro zone in May. Among the member states, Hungary saw the biggest annual drop (-26.6%), followed by Slovenia (-21.2%) and Poland (-13.8%). Compared to April this year, the construction work in Romania dropped by 3% in May. It was the second largest monthly decrease, exceeded only by Italy with -3.6%. editor@romania-insider.com
