Romania needs EUR 126 bln for investments in key infrastructure

Romania would need EUR 126 billion until 2035 for investments in the key infrastructure, but the Government has identified sources of only EUR 50 billion, or 40% of the needed amount, according to Romania’s territorial development strategy, reports local Ziarul Financiar. On Wednesday, the Government approved a bill for this strategy, which is called “2035 polycentric Romania. Cohesion and competitiveness, development and equal opportunities for people”. The strategy will be submitted to the Parliament for approval. Of the total EUR 126 billion investments, EUR 20 billion would be covered from EU funds whereas EUR 22 billion would be provided by the state budget. Some EUR 5 billion could come from loans while EUR 3 billion could be secured through projects built in public-private partnership. This means that Romania has a financing deficit of 60% of the total amount, namely EUR 76 billion, for the next 20 years. editor@romania-insider.com
