Romanian individuals held 14.6 million bank deposits at the end of last year. Only 13.8 million of these were guaranteed. Most of the remaining 800,000 unguaranteed accounts were deposits over EUR 100,000, according to data from the Romanian Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund (FGDB), cited by local Economica.net. Individuals’ deposits amounted to EUR 31 billion at the end of 2014, EUR 1.8 billion higher year-on-year. Romanians manage to save EUR 41 per month. By comparison, Hungarians save EUR 49 and Austrians, up to EUR 188, shows an Erste Group barometer. editor@romania-insider.com
