Romania recorded a current account deficit of EUR 967 million in the first three months of 2018, 25% higher than in the same period of 2017, Romania’s National Bank (BNR) announced. The deficit in the trade of goods was EUR 460 million higher than in the first quarter of 2017 while the surplus on the services segment was EUR 94 million lower. The deficit on the primary revenues segment, which reflects capital transfers by companies, was lower by EUR 328 million and the surplus on the secondary revenues segment, which reflects individual capital transfers, was EUR 29 million higher than in the first quarter of 2017. Overall, Romania made payments abroad worth EUR 23.9 billion, EUR 2.4 billion higher than in Q1 2017, and received payments worth EUR 22.9 billion, EUR 2.2 billion higher than in the same period of last year. editor@romania-insider.com
