Romania and Ukraine get EUR 3.8 mln to keep the Danube clean

Romania and Ukraine have received EUR 3.8 million from the European Commission for a project in the Danube basin. The EC has adopted a series of programs that support the economic and social development of 27 countries located on both sides of the EU's external borders, with a total budget of EUR 1 billion. Ukraine and Romania’s project is called “The Clean River". It aims to increase cooperation on preventing man-made disasters. Within each program, the participants have selected up to four priorities. These include the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, culture, environment, or climate change. “Cross-border cooperation is essential to avoid creating new dividing lines,” said Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy & Enlargement Negotiations. editor@romania-insider.com
