Romania ranked second-to-last in the European Union on the tax revenues to GDP ratio, in 2013. The total taxes collected in Romania accounted for 27.4% of the country’s GDP, according to EU’s statistical office Eurostat. Only Lithuania had a lower ratio, of 27.2%. In the European Union, the tax revenues to GDP ratio was 40.1%, whereas in the Eurozone the ratio was 41.2%. Denmark ranked first for the share of tax revenues in the GDP, with 48.6%, followed by Belgium and France. Between 2012 and 2013, nine EU member states recorded decreases of the tax revenues to GDP ratio. Romania had the steepest drop, of 0.7 percentage points, from 28.1% to 27.4%. editor@romania-insider.com
