Romania aims to recover EUR 2 bln from tax evasion battle

Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Ungureanu has demanded that tax authorities in the country recover almost EUR 2 billion – equivalent to 1.5 percent of the country's Gross Domestic Product- by fighting tax evasion on alcohol and vegetable trade in the next two months. The country's GDP for the year is forecast to reach some EUR 133 billion. The state revenues estimated for this year are of some EUR 45.5 billion – or 33.7 percent of the country's GDP, up 0.4 percentage points from last year.

Romania's 33 percent of GDP in tax revenues is below the EU average of 40 percent. “You have my absolute support for obtaining this result,” said Ungureanu in a statement.
