Romania adopts law on remote labor

Romania’s Chamber of Deputies adopted on Wednesday the draft bill that regulates remote work. The new law, which was initiated by the Government last summer, only needs the President’s signature to come into force. The bill allows employees who work on a computer to do so from home, offering more flexibility to both employees and employers, according to labor minister Lia Olguta Vasilescu. She said the bill was inspired from the Japanese legislation and that people who work from home will have the same rights as regular employees. The law also allows the Labor Inspection, the official authority in charge with verifying that the labor legislation is respected in Romania, to carry out controls at the remote employees’ homes to see if they meet the labor security norms.
