Public transport fines could go up in Romania

Passengers who are caught in public transport vehicles without valid tickets might be fined up to RON 500 (EUR 113), according to a draft bill on the public passenger transport service, put up for public debate on the website of the Ministry of Development. “Individuals travelling by public transport without a valid ticket, who refuse to present their tickets to control authorities, who have an inappropriate behavior, or who damage the transport means, are committing an offense and can be sanctioned with a fine between RON 100 and RON 500,” reads the draft bill, cited by local Mediafax. Currently, the fine for travelling without a ticket in Bucharest is RON 50 (some EUR 11). The price of one single fare by bus, trolley or tram in Bucharest is RON 1.3 (EUR 0.3).
