New public procurement laws to reach Romania's Parliament by mid-October

The new laws on public procurement will reach Romania’s Parliament around October 15, this year, which would allow the legislation to be implemented by January 1, 2016, said Roxana Minzatu, president of the National Agency for Public Procurement, reports local Agerpres. Transposing the European directive on public procurement into the Romanian law is just one pillar of the national strategy, she added. It would take two years to implement the whole strategy. Bogdan Chiritoiu, president of the Competition Council, said that the new laws on public procurement focused more on public procurement financed with European funds and less on the procurement from national funds. The laws should have a balanced approach. Authorities are more careful about the distortion of public procurement from European funds, than in relation to national funds, Chiritoiu added. editor@romania-insider.com
