Private loans up by 3% in Romania after three years of contraction

The private loans increased by 3% last year over 2014, after three years of contraction. The loans in Romanian currency lei granted to the private sector rose by 19.7% in Romania in December last year compared to December 2014, reaching RON 110.3 billion (EUR 24.3 billion). The credit in foreign currency dropped by 9.9% last year to RON 107.2 billion (EUR 23.6 billion). The loans in lei thus surpassed the credit in foreign currency last year for the first time after 2007. The household loans in lei rose by 31% last year compared to 2014, due to the increase in consumption and the First House program. The corporate loans in local currency also went up by 11% over 2014. editor@romania-insider.com
