Private healthcare operator Regina Maria continues expansion in Romania

Regina Maria, the second biggest private healthcare operator in Romania, has acquired the Helios medical center in Craiova and plans to invest EUR 1 million in developing it.

Helios, which was founded in 1999, is the best-known medical center in Craiova, according to Regina Maria’s representatives. The center had a turnover of EUR 800,000 in 2015.

Regina Maria also has a private clinic and a test lab in Craiova.

The network has accelerated its expansion after private equity fund Mid Europa Partners took control of the company last year. Regina Maria recently took over the Ponderas hospital in Bucharest, which specializes in obesity surgery, and announced that it would open a hospital in Cluj-Napoca, in partnership with local investor Horia Ciorcila.

Medlife, the biggest private healthcare operator in the market, has also been expanding through acquisitions in the past two years.
