Polish lender Alior Bank can start its operations in Romania starting April 30, after it was recently authorized by Romania’s National Bank (BNR). Alior is the eighth foreign bank that opens a subsidiary in Romania. The Polish lender has been very aggressive on the retail segment, where its partnerships with retail chain Tesco and telecom group T-Mobile have helped it grow. The lender will try to replicate its business model in Romania, where it has signed a deal with Telekom, which allows it to offer banking services to the telecom operator’s nearly 6 million clients, reports local Wall-street.ro.
