Over 1.77 mln phone numbers switch carriers in Romania

Over 1.77 million phone numbers have switched networks in Romania since 2008 when the state introduced the portability service. About 564,000 telephone numbers moved to new carriers in 2014, according to data from Romania’ communications authority ANCOM. Most of the carrier switches happened in December 2014, namely 96,098 phone numbers. Since the introduction of this service, more Romanians changed their telecom operator but kept their number every year. About 180,000 phone numbers move to new carriers in 2009, increased to 221,000 in 2010, then to about 260,000 in 2011, to some 255,000 in 2012, to about 274,000 in 2013 and finally to about 564,000, the highest level, 2014. editor@romania-insider.com
