Over 1.7 mln foreign tourists check in Romanian hotels

Over 1.7 million foreigners stayed in hotels and guesthouses in Romania in the first nine months of the year, up by 18.5% compared to the same period in 2014. In total, about 7.7 million people spent the night in local accommodation places during this period, up by 17.3% year-on-year. The number of Romanian tourists amounted to 5.9 million, or 77% of the total. Three-quarters of all foreign tourist were European, with the highest numbers coming from Germany (214,900), Israel (over 171,000), Italy (almost 159,000), France (105,900), and USA (101,300). The Romanian tourists spent on average 2.5 days in the local accommodation places, whereas the foreign tourists spent 2 days on average. The occupancy rate of accommodation places amounted to almost 30%, up by 2.8 percentage points year-on-year. editor@romania-insider.com
