Norway to connect 10,000 homes in Romania to the power grid

Norwegian development bank Innovation Norway will select 10,000 homes without electricity in Romania and will finance their connection to the power grid. The bank’s representatives have already started the field documentation to select the homes, reports local Profit.ro. The Romanian authorities have sent a list of over 21,000 households without electricity. However, Romania has an estimated number of about 100,000 households without electricity. A document drafted by the Energy Ministry at the beginning of this month shows that the official data on the number of homes without electricity in Romania is provided by the state-controlled electricity holding Electrica. Apart from that, the ministry doesn’t have its own data or studies on this. In 2016, Romania signed two memoranda with Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein and Norway for the period 2014-2021. These countries will allocate EUR 10 million for the connection of 10,000 homes in Romania’s rural areas to the power grid.
