The number of new car registered in Romania in 2011 was down 13.5 percent compared to 2010, to 81,709 units, according to the Directorate for Driving Licenses and Vehicle Registration (DRCPIV), quoted by Mediafax newswire. Dacia came first in terms of car registrations in 2011, with 23,585 units registered, but down 23 percent compared to 2010. The Romanian brand was followed by Volkswagen, with 8,734 units, and Skoda with 7,568 units. In terms of second hand cars, registrations dropped to less than half, from 214,606 units to 94,488 units.
