Net wages rise by 13.7% in Romania in 12 months ending October

The average net wage in Romania increased to RON 2,720 (EUR 585) in October, a level 13.7% higher than in the same month last year (y/y terms). In absolute terms (adjusted for the consumer price inflation), the average net wage increased by 9.1% y/y, the steepest growth since March when the government enforced a major wage hike in the public healthcare and education systems. The wages will see another leap in January, when the minimum statutory wage (gross) rises from RON 1,900 to RON 2,080 and RON 2,350 for employees with higher education. Over the 12 months ending October, the wages in the healthcare system increased the most: by 31% to RON 3,516. Except small-sized economic sectors, such as editing - where the wages increased by 27% y/y, significant advances were posted by the sectors of education (+19% y/y to RON 2,845), calculator, electronic and optic devices production (+23.4% y/y to RON3,201) and constructions (+17.8% y/y to RON 2,033). editor@romania-insider.com (photo source: Pixabay.com)
