The mayor of Sibiu Klaus Iohannis was elected president of Romania’s National Liberal Party PNL during the party’s congress organized on Saturday, June 28. Of the total 1,479 valid votes, Iohannis got 1,334, defeating his opponent Ioan Ghise, who received only 144 votes. A total of 1,479 votes were valid, from the total of 1,519, reports local Wall-street.ro. Former PNL leader Crin Antonescu resigned from the party’s helm in late May this year, on the poor results of the European Parliament elections. Irina Popescu, irina.popescu@romania-insider.com
