Minister says Romania needs EUR 4 billion to fix potholes in its roads, names the worst road in the country

The worst road segment in Romania connects the cities of Botosani and Suceava, according to the minister delegate for infrastructure work Dan Sova. However, he urged drivers not to avoid it, because it is in an amazing area for tourists. Romania will need to spend some EUR 4 billion this year for the summer road maintenance, but the Highways Company CNADNR only has EUR 180 million for maintenance work. The company currently runs 17,000 kilometers of roads in Romania, including 530 kilometers of highways. After CNADNR asked regional divisions to send in the number of potholes to be filled in this summer, it resulted in a required budget of EUR 4 billion. The minister said that every four years, not only in Romania, but elsewhere in Europe too, each road needs to be covered with an extra layer of asphalt, but Romania does not have enough funds for the work. editor@romania-insider.com
