Media: Romania's Romtelecom and Cosmote to rebrand as Deutsche Telekom's T and T-Mobile brands

Eleven years after becoming majority shareholder in Romania's telecom provider Romtelecom, Greek company OTE, in its turn owned by Deutsche Telekom, has decided to re-brand the Romanian company. Romtelecom will thus be re-branded under Deutsche Telekom' T brand, according to Romanian daily Ziarul Financiar, quoting a recent board decision. The deadline for finalizing the re-branding is September 12, 2014. At the same time, Cosmote, the mobile telephony division of OTE in Romania, will become T-Mobile. Ziarul Financiar mentions a EUR 10 million budget for the re-branding, and says even the Romanian state's representatives in the board were for the move. Romtelecom is controlled by OTE – 54 percent of the shares, and by the Romanian state, with the rest. According to previous information, Romtelecom and Cosmote were to merge this year, and several top management spots, including the CEO, are joint positions.
