Marathon brings 7,000 runners from 40 countries to Bucharest, winner comes from Kenya

The annual Bucharest International Marathon, which took place last week-end in the Romanian capital, gathered 7,000 runners from 40 countries and was won by Kenyan Felix Kangogo. Running for the first time in Romania, the Kenyan finished the race in two hours, 15 minutes and 19 seconds. Second place went to another Kenyan - Choge Amos Kipruto, who was three minutes behind the winner, while in third was Ethiopian Ararso Dibaba Merdasa, who was four minutes behind Kangogo.

An Ethiopian won the women's marathon, Almaz Nagede Fekade, in two hours, 38 minutes. The winners in the men's and women's race each received a EUR 3,000 award. The best placed Romanian was Alexandru Ilie Corneschi, who finished in two hours and 36 minutes, while the best female runner was Claudia Paula Todoran, finishing third in the women's race. The men'a half marathon was won by British Tom Payn, in one hour and ten minutes, while Romanian Ancuţa Bobocel won the women's race in one hour 13 minutes. The relay race was won by Stiinta Bacau.
