Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac II gets green light in Romania for February premiere

The second part of Lars von Trier's erotic drama Nymphomaniac has been given the green light to premier in Romania following suggestions the film would be banned.

Head of the National Center of Cinema (CNC) Mihai Kogalniceanu said there would be no censorship during his mandate, and that the film got the “prohibited under 18' label, according to Mediafax.

The distribution company Independenta Film had previously said the CNC told them the film was prohibited for all audiences. But the CNC commission in charge of classifying all movies screened in Romania re-watched the movie and changed its label. The film will premiere in Romania on February 7. The first part of the film has been screened in Romania since January 17, also classified as IM-18, prohibited for viewers under 18. So far, the film grossed revenues of some USD 54,000, and ranks 12 and going down in the local box office published by Cinemagia.ro. Elsewhere in Europe, the second and first part were given green light for audiences above 14, 15 or 16. Danish director Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac is a two-part drama film released in 2013, which stars Charlotte Gainsbourg, Stellan Skarsgård, Stacy Martin, Martin Solibakke, Shia LaBeouf, Jamie Bell, Christian Slater and Connie Nielsen. The film is a drama about a woman’s erotic journey from birth to the age of 50 as told by the main character, the self-diagnosed nymphomaniac played by Charlotte Gainsbourg.
