KPMG tax director takes over as head of Romania’s Tax Agency

Dragos Doros, tax director within Big 4 consultancy firm KPMG, will take over as head of Romania’s Tax Agency ANAF, following a decision signed by Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos. In 2012, Doros was Secretary of State in the Ministry of Finance in the Mihai Razvan Ungureanu Cabinet. Before that, between 2008 and 2010, he was director of tax law within the Ministry of Finance. Dragos Doros, 43, also worked as a tax specialist at EY and local law firms Bostina & Associates and NNDKP. The Prime Minister dismissed the former ANAF head Gelu Stefan Diaconu in February, as he was investigated for abuse of office in a case of EU funds fraud and corruption. The Finance Ministry plans to restructure ANAF and improve the tax collection through a reform program financed by the World Bank. The cash registers will be connected to the Tax Agency’s database. The agency will thus be able to check in real time the VAT collection. The budget revenues rose by 12% last year, although the VAT on food went down from 24% to 9% last year and the social contributions dropped by 5% in 2014.
