Taxes and fees accounted for 20.3% of the total household expenses in Romania last year, according to the National Statistics Institute. They reached an average of RON 513 (EUR 112) per month. The wage tax represented 39.7% of the total taxes, compared to 39.5% in 2015. The social security contributions, including those for pensions, unemployment and health insurance, accounted for 58.4% in 2016 compared to 56.3% in the previous year. In 2015, taxes and fees had a share of 19% in household expenses in Romania, and the total amount paid as taxes reached RON 446.1 (EUR 97.5) per household. editor@romania-insider.com
