Head of Romanian Central Bank operations becomes country's new representative at IMF

Romania will have a new representative at the International Monetary Fund, after the incumbent Mihai Tanasescu has been named vice-president of the European Investment Bank. He will be replaced by Şerban Matei, the head of operations in the Romanian Central Bank (BNR). He will take over the new job at the end of this summer.

Matei is an Economic Studies graduate from 1992 and has been working with BNR ever since. In 2010, he became head of the Market Operations direction. Serban Matei is also president of the Association of Financial Markets for Romania and member of the Romanian Association for the Rome Club. Mihai Tanasescu, 56, graduated the Economic Studies Academy in Bucharest and has several specializations abroad, at Ecole Nationale d’Administration (ENA) and Harvard Business School. He started working in Romania’s Finance Ministry in the early 90s, and became Romania’s representative at the World Bank in 1997. He was the Minister of Public Finances from 2000 to 2004. Tanasescu has been Romania’s representative at the IMF since 2007 and he is also one of the three Romanians on the Trilateral Commission. editor@romania-insider.com
