Group of Romanian MPs push project to add a third free day for Easter

A group of members of the Romanian Parliament would like Romanians to have a longer official holiday for Easter, and recently proposed adding an extra free day, the third day of Easter. The first and second days of Easter are already free – the first being a Sunday, and the following Monday is a free day by law. The MPs come from the Social Democrat Party - part of the ruling coalition and the Popular Party Dan Diaconescu PPDD. They argue that Easter is the most important Cristian festival of the year in Romania, when people want to be close to their families. The Romanian state currently grants 12 free days by law, but in reality, four of them are often Sundays, according to the initiators of the project, who also argue Romania is among the countries with the smallest number of free days in the EU. For example, Belgium has 24 bank holidays. If they are successful in convincing their fellow MPs to pass the bill,the Labor Code will change to add the new free day. editor@romania-insider.com
