German retailer Lidl increase minimum salary for its employees in Romania by 30%

German retailer Lidl, which has some 4,000 employees in Romania, has increased the minimum salary in the company by 30%. This means that any full-time employee, whether working in stores or deposit, will earn at least RON 2,199 (EUR 488) as gross salary. This spring, the minimum gross salary in the company amounted to EUR 376, which included the food vouchers. The minimum gross salary in Romania amounts to EUR 277, whereas the average gross salary exceeds EUR 621. A Lidl employee working in stores or deposit can now reach a gross salary of EUR 665, food vouchers included, according to the company officials. Lidl has a gradual payroll system, so that the salary automatically increases every year in the first three years of activity. The company also offers its employees free private health insurance and medical packages. Lidl is one of the biggest retailers in Romania. It has a network of about 200 supermarkets and made a turnover of EUR 1.1 billion in 2015.
