German Ambassador: Romania needs to improve transport infrastructure

One of the main things that need improvement in Romania is transport infrastructure, according to Germany’s Ambassador to Romania Cord Meier-Klodt. “Very concretely, I think the country still has deficiencies in terms of transport infrastructure. It’s pretty clear that improving this infrastructure would help all businesses, including the German ones,” he said in an interview with local News.ro. He also emphasized that the German companies are looking for transparency and predictability in the legislation and the business environment. “German businesses are not looking for quick profits. They don’t come for hit and runs, but invest on the long term. So, for this kind of businesses, the most important factors are confidence, predictability, and the transparency of the legislation and business environment,” the ambassador explained. He added that foreign investors in Romania expect the same things from local politicians as Romania’s political partners, namely to continue the fight against corruption and for respecting the rule of law. He also pointed out that local campaigns against international corporations are not helpful. Germany is Romania’s main trade partner, with commercial exchanges between the two countries standing at some EUR 26 billion, which is over a fifth of Romania’s foreign trade. Moreover, German companies have created 250,000 to 300,000 jobs in Romania. On April 21, Romania and Germany celebrated 25 years since signing the Friendship Treaty, which marked a new phase in the bilateral relations between the two countries. editor@romania-insider.com
