Founder of large Romanian law firm disbarred after court orders jail time in forgery case

Romanian lawyer Doru Boştină (in picture), founder and former head of Boştină & Asociaţii law firm, was recently disbarred, a year after being sentenced to jail for forgery. The lawyer, who headed the law firm until the end of June, previously announced he will give up being a lawyer, and rather focus on developing the company, as development director. Earlier in April 2013, Boştină lost the appeal against the three-month jail time ordered by the court for forgery. This court decision was made in a case started back in 2003, when the lawyer's former wife, Florina Mihaela Gruia, accused him of using fake documents to prove ownership over a building. Boştină & Asociaţii, one of the largest Romanian law firms, is currently being coordinated by Gheorghe Boştină, 64, Doru Boştină's father. The law firm has a team of 85 lawyers, including 18 partners, and had a turnover of EUR 33 million in 2011, up from EUR 10 million in 2007. Doru Boştină has been a member of the Bucharest Bar since 1992, when he started his law firm. editor@romania-insider.com
