Former director of Bucharest's public transport company gets 4 years in prison

The Bucharest Court sentenced Viorel Popescu, the former director of Bucharest's public transport company RATB, to four years and four months in prison, because he damaged the public transport company with about EUR 820,000. He closed a deal with a company which offered RATB legal assistance, even though it didn’t have the right to perform this activity. The National Anticorruption Prosecutors (DNA) accused Popescu of abuse of office and conflict of interests. The Bucharest Court’s decision is not final and can be challenged at the Bucharest Court of Appeal, reports local Mediafax. editor@romania-insider.com
