Foreign tourists spend over EUR 244 mln in Romania in Q1

About 414,000 foreign tourists stayed in the local hotels and guesthouses in the first quarter of the year. They spent over EUR 244 million, namely some EUR 591.4 per person, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS). Business tourists generated almost two-thirds (64%) of the total spending as they also represented 63.3% of the total number of tourists. Of the total business expenditure, the accommodation expenses had a share of 54.5%. Business tourists also spent some 16.5% of their money in bars and restaurants, and 12.8% shopping. The tourists who came for personal reasons accounted for 36.7% of the total number of guests. Over 61% of them came to spend their holidays in Romania. Leisure tourists spent only 42.6% of their budget on accommodation, 12.1% in bars and restaurants, and 15% shopping.
