Foreign direct investments in Romania up to EUR 785 mln in first four months

Foreign direct investments totaled EUR 785 million in the first four months of this year in Romania, up 8.7 percent year-on-year, according to data from the Central Bank BNR. The medium and long term external debt stood at EUR 76.1 billion at the end of April, slightly down from end-2013. The short term external debt went down 4.5 percent from the end of last year. In the first quarter, foreign direct investments totaled EUR 570 million, up by a third compared to the same period in 2013. More than half of the investments were attracted in March – EUR 290 million, the highest since the beginning of the year. Last year, foreign direct investments went up by a quarter, to some EUR 2.7 billion, a peak in the last four years.
