Eureko: Romanian private health insurance market could reach EUR 5 bln in few years

The private health insurance market in Romania could reach EUR 4 to 5 billion in a few years, from a current level below EUR 10 million, if Romania would apply the Dutch model of health care sector reform, according to insurance company Eureko. “There are several models that can be applied in Romania, but the specific country situation and people's attitude must be taken into account”, said Carmen Radu, Deputy General Manager of Eureko Insurance. In Romania, the Insurance Supervisory Commission data shows that private health insurance market is below EUR 10 million. The entire insurance market in Romania is around EUR 2 billion. Part of the Dutch financial group Eureko, the subsidiary in Romania is among the biggest players on the local life and health insurance. In 2010, Eureko Group reported anet profit of EUR 1.22 billion, down 12 percent compared to the net result reported in 2009, of EUR 1.38 billion. Irina Popescu, irina.popescu@romania-insider.com
