Employees in Romania will earn EUR 59.3 billion this year

Employees in Romania will have total earnings of EUR 59.3 billion this year, an all-time record in absolute terms, according to the National Prognosis Commission (CNP). It is the first time when CNP publishes estimates related to the employees’ salaries in Romania. In 2015, the wages totaled EUR 51.78 billion. The total earnings will increase by 15.3% this year due to higher average wages and more employees, according to CNP estimates. However, the employees’ value added in the economy, which is calculated as the share of their total salaries in the GDP, remains below the level of 2008 and significantly lower compared to other countries in the EU. The share of salaries in the GDP is expected to reach 35% this year, up from 32.3% in 2015. In 2008, salaries accounted for 39.3% of the GDP. In absolute value, they amounted to EUR 55.9 billion.
