EC urges Romania to build Pitesti-Sibiu highway

The European Commission has urged Romania to build the Pitesti-Sibiu highway, which is currently a missing segment of the Rhine-Danube Pan-European Corridor, part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TENTEC). “This highway is the highest investment priority,” said the Romanian-born European Commissioner for Regional Policy Corina Cretu, reports local Hotnews.ro. The highway’s estimated cost is about EUR 2 billion, EUR 1.25 billion of which represents EU’s contribution, Cretu added. Transport minister Razvan Cuc announced last week that the work on another significant infrastructure project, the Comarnic-Brasov highway, would start this year, 13 years after the project was launched. Romania’s National Company for Road Infrastructure (CNAIR) has signed the attribution reports for one of the Comarnic-Brasov highway’s sectors, as well as for the Comarnic bypass last week. editor@romania-insider.com
