EC continues offshore safety infringement against Romania

The European Commission decided yesterday to continue the infringement procedures against Romania and Germany for not mirroring the directive on the safety of offshore activities into their national laws. For Romania, the norms would aim to prevent accidents in the oil exploitations in the Black Sea. The countries should have adopted the directive into their national laws by July 19, 2015. The European directive asks the member states to apply a series of norms to contribute to the prevention of accidents. For example, companies should prepare a report on the major risks for their offshore equipment before they start exploration or production. Romania and Germany are not the only countries against which the EU has started infringement procedures for offshore activity safety. Last year, it made a similar move against 15 other countries which had failed to update their laws. editor@romania-insider.com
