Early winter blizzard wreaks havoc in Bucharest

The early winter snow and wind took Romanian capital Bucharest by surprise last weekend. The wind took down over 130 trees in the capital, which damaged some 65 cars. The Bucharest Emergency Situations Unit ISU had to deal with twice as many requests a day compared to an ordinary day during the weekend. The Ambulance had to face 1,100 requests in just 24 hours, and about half of them were emergencies, including people who feel on the street or who had various accidents in public places. Authorities already started to scatter nonskid substances on the street, and sent snow removal equipment across the whole capital, helping keep traffic under normal conditions. It started to snow on Saturday afternoon in Bucharest.By night, until when the blizzard continued, the layer of snow reached 10 centimeters. The weather improved on Sunday afternoon.
