Dutch Zeelandia opens first phase of EUR 10 mln confectionery ingredients production facility in Iasi

Dutch confectionery ingredients producer Zeelandia has recently opened a factory in Iasi, the first phase of a EUR 10 million larger project. The company has so far invested EUR 3 million in this project. It bought a 22,000 sqm land in Miroslava, near Iasi, in 2006. The factory covers 2,000 sqm and new production warehouses will be added, as well as an administrative building, in the later phases of the project. Zeelandia has been operating in Romania since 1998, when the company bought Polish Superbake, including its Romanian subsidiary. Zeelandia started to produce the first ingredients in its Bucharest factory in 2000, but moved the production in Iasi in 2002. The company expanded the products base in Romania in 2004. The company posted a EUR 8.7 million turnover in 2009 and a profit of EUR 600,000. Worldwide, the company posted EUR 344 million in 2009 and sold 186 million tonnes of confectionery ingredients.
