Drug bust at Bucharest's Otopeni airport

The Romanian border police and prosecutors from the Directorate for Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) have caught a Romanian who had 36 kilograms of khat or African marijuana on himself, which he brought from Ethiopia. The man, who was caught at the Henri Coanda airport in Bucharest, planned to take the drugs to Austria, reports local Mediafax. The World Health Organization classified khat as a drug in 1980, saying that it can give a slight addiction, weaker than alcohol or tobacco. In Romania, however, it is considered a high-risk drug. editor@romania-insider.com
