Draft project in Romania: Access to personal data, granted only by a judge

Access to personal data is allowed only with the prior permission of a judge, according to a draft project in Romania. The country’s political party leaders signed the document on May 6 at the Cotroceni Palace, the headquarters of Romania’s president, reports local Mediafax. When asked by the court, prosecutors or national defence institutions, providers of electronic communication services have to offer traffic data, equipment identification data and location data no later than 48 hours. All requests need the prior permission of a judge. Providers must erase the personal data or turn them into anonymous data when no longer needed by the authorities, but no later than three years from when it sent them to the authorities, according to the bill. editor@romania-insider.com
