Deutsche Telekom subsidiary buys Romanian RCS&RDS' company in Slovakia

Slovak Telekom, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, recently reached an agreement to buy the Slovakian subsidiary of Romanian cable company RCS&RDS, the company announced. The value of the deal to take over Digi Slovakia was not announced. RCS&RDS has around 270,000 customers for internet and cable TV in Slovakia. Slovak Telekom, the buyer, has 180,000 customers for TV services. After the deal, Digi Slovakia will become a subsidiary of Slovak Telekom. "Our aim in the medium term is to expand our portfolio and take advantage of growth in selected strategic segments, such as the digital television. DIGI Slovakia was chosen due to its well-established customer base and the availability of its services, said Miroslav Majoros, Chairman and CEO of Slovak Telekom. This is RCS & RDS' second exit from the regional market, after selling its satellite TV operations in Croatia to Vipnet. RCS&RDS entered the Slovakian market in 2006, and by 2010, it had 260,000 clients for satellite TV and 45,000 clients for cable TV. Apart from its core market Romania, RCS&RDS runs activities in other European markets, Hungary, the Czech republic, Slovakia, Spain, Italy and Serbia. Owned by businessman Zoltan Teszari, RCS & RDS ended 2011 with a turnover of EUR 479 million.
